Who am I?
Hi! My name is Neil.
As a high school student, I snagged a perfect score on the Critical Reading section of the SAT and a near-perfect score on the Writing test (back in those days of yore, Writing was only a Subject Test). I did it all without any preparation beyond an hour of indifferent vocabulary study with my friend Andrew the night before.
After graduating in 1999, I went to Emory University, where I won numerous writing awards and graduated summa cum laude in 2003 with a degree in English and Italian. Working at the Writing Center there, I honed the personal and academic skills that have served me well in my career as a tutor.
Since then, I’ve been involved with test prep, working to help hundreds of students in the Atlanta area meet and exceed their academic goals.
I understand tests like the SAT, ACT, and SSAT almost instinctively, but most people don’t. As a tutor, I aim to help students see the test like I do by showing them the powerful tools they already possess and then honing these tools to help them reach their goals. On this blog and in my classes, I present candid, thoughtful discussions of test prep strategy and answer questions about the larger world of college admissions, financial aid, and standardized testing.
